With thousands of men half a world away fighting in the trenches of Europe, how did the people of Tasmania cope? Students will explore the stories of grieving families searching for missing sons and explore the divisive debates around conscription during the war. The program will also explore why the young Aboriginal men of Cape Barren and Flinders Island signed up to fight in such numbers, at the very time they were denied their rights as citizens. 100 years later, what is the legacy of World War I for Tasmania?
